Look of the day (x 4)

One of the best street style shots to come out of the latest fashion shows. Taken in Paris during the Couture shows, it captures four Russian fashionistas, sporting four very different looks and all looking fabulous. Ulyana’s veil is so dramatic, and I love Mira’s mini. Russians know fashion.

Look of the day.

This look is so simple, both the colour palate and skinny jeans/turtle-neck knit combo are so simple, yet so chic. A look I’m loving this winter is the turtle-neck, I hope it’s making a come back, and if blogger Elin Kling is rocking one, then I think signs may point to yes. Even her Celine tote is perfectly coordinated with the ensemble. Simple winter styling at it’s best.

Melbourne+Grace Kelly.

A couple of weeks ago I went to Melbourne for the long weekend. Melbourne is such a great city; the trams, the food, the shopping, the lane ways, all amazing! Brunswick street is great for vintage shopping, I could have spent days trawling through shops, but I chose not to torture my shopping partner and stuck with a pair of high-waisted vintage pants. The sales were on so I also got an amazing Marcs coat for 65% off! A true shopping moment! Since I came home I’ve been upping the exercise and lowering the calorie intake, the food in Melbourne is amazing! Pastries, Italian, Tapas…you name it, I probably ate it. Brunetti’s in Fitzroy right near where we stayed, is delicious, once a small cake shop, it is expanding and taking over Melbourne. We went for breakfast and had pastries, but you could go and indulge in some of the delicious looking cakes, Macaroons, etc. After a couple of days in Melbourne, we headed out to Bendigo to see the Grace Kelly exhibition. Bendigo is flourishing with the influx of tourists coming to see the exhibition, and so it should be, the exhibition is fabulous. The exhibition was created by the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, and documents Kelly’s stylish moments from her early days onscreen in High Society, through to her days as Princess Grace of Monaco. The gowns are stunning, from a variety of designers; YSL, Balenciaga and Chanel, plus the famed wedding dress. Along with the Valentino exhibition, this is one of the best fashion exhibitions to come to Australia in recent times. Through an iPhone, here is what I capture of Melbourne.

Valentino cruise collection, 2013.

This is more art than fashion. Even from the internet I can see the detail in the full-skirt of this Valentino gown from the 2013 cruise collection. The appliqué and embroidery used in this piece is amazing, the silhouette is stunning and the bright colours are unexpected, but gorgeous. Valentino has always been a fashion power-house, since Valentino Garavani the man himself, left the fashion house in 2008, new designers Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli have struggled to fill the enormous shoes left by Garavani. In Paris at the Haute Couture shows in 2009, U.K. newspaper ‘The Guardian’ claimed the duo ‘disappointed’ with their collection. Yet slowly, over the past few years, the duo have slowly built up a strong label again, although they may never rival Garavani himself, they have surely come close with this latest cruise collection.

Look of the day.

I don’t think Christine Centenera has ever made a bad fashion choice. Maybe long ago, in the midst of the 90s, before she was one of the best dress ladies in Australia she wore a bike pants or runners and jeans, but even so I can’t imagine it. Her partner is the amazing fashion designer, Josh Goot and she does work for fashion bible, Harper’s Bazaar, so her flawless style is no surprise. I’ve featured her on my blog before wearing this Balenciaga skirt, but this Josh Goot jacket (which she probably got on mates rates or something…lucky) is amazing, I love the combination of colour and texture. Enjoy this look of the day!

Look of the day.

Susie Bubble is my latest obsession. She is beyond cool. I watched a ‘Bluefly Closet Confession’ with her about her amazing closet and blog, I recommend everyone watch it (watch here -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hMLQPDT__U0) ! I love her accent, her amazing fringe/hair and quirky style. At the moment she is rocking a trainers and dresses/skirts look, which appeals to me, because as I’ve said before, as much as I love heels, they don’t love me, so trainers are the ideal solution. Anyway this shot from her tumblr is my look of the day for this Friday, love the classic red lace with the twist of Nike’s.

You’ve got mail.

What did I get in the mail today? Floral printed pants from Asos is what! Having a big package waiting for you at home is a fabulous feeling, especially when the package contains some form of clothing/accessory. The pants are a little big, but in a good way and will be perfect for winter, they’re like a garden on my legs, they were also a bargain, only $59.50 (Aus) with free delivery!

Killer peplum.

I was never a huge fan of the peplum until Michelle Williams graced the red carpet at the Oscars wearing an amazing Louis Vuitton gown with a stunning peplum. I think my initial dislike of the peplum was the over use of it, generally in a not so chic manner. But done properly, the peplum can be super flattering (ideal for hiding food babies) and very chic, see; Michelle Williams in Louis Vuitton. So when I saw this killer peplum on JakandJil I had to post it to show just how good a peplum can look when done right.

Look of the day.

This look is so cute. It looks effortless, the layering and the soft pink give it a child-like look, the brogues give it some polish. Love the contrast of the back-pack and the soft tutu-like skirt, the blonde bob seals the deal. Anyone wanting to look as though they manage to look amazing without trying, take tips from this look. Very New York.
